Shorts Before The Show

Each evening of The Mrs. Wheatland Pageant will open with a Short Before The Show, featuring  a 10-15 minute reading from a new work by a local playwright. A different playwright will be featured each night, with two playwrights featured on closing night.

The lineup features a combination of Theater 29 playwrights and other stellar local playwrights who are changing the theatrical landscape in Denver.

FEBRUARY 28

SHORT: Suspicious Activities: A political satire/farce, as if there’s not enough of that going around already.

FRANK OTERI - Playwright & Producer

SHORT: Always With a Bang: An afterlife conversation filled with secrets, suits and one hell of a television.

JESSICA AUSTGEN -Playwright, Actor, Improviser, Teacher, Podcaster

SHORT: Self Promoted: A pair of cubicle mates spar for a promotion while being cheered on by a suspiciously supportive coworker.

SHORT: One Man’s Trash: While viewing an exhibit of art made from discarded objects, Cee startles upon a window into the past and attempts to rewrite history

SHORT: Nomads of Disaster/ Listening to Chernobyl: As they reluctantly depart the future nuclear zone, Svetlana and Alexey take a hopeful shot at tapping into some good old American know-how or luck or whatever it is. They try the Book Bar. They meet Ashley.
